Facebook


Over the last 10 years or so, Facebook has become the number one used social networking website in the world. This social networking website allows users to interact and share information with their “friends”. It was created in 2004 by a college student name Mark Zuckerberg. Even though there are obvious positive aspects of Facebook, there are many negative aspects as well; many of them have to do with the privacy policy.  

Facebook can be used by businesses to advertise and interact with the community. A page on Facebook is when a company creates a page that can be viewed and “liked” by users on the site. When users like the page is shows the amount of people who support the company or product, and it also is a way to promote. Creating a Facebook page is very easy; all you need to do is create an account and select to create a page. This is a very useful way to advertise because it is cheap and it will reach a large amount of potential customers. The negative part of Facebook for businesses is that the customers can show their dislike for the company publicly and it can be seen by many others users. As of recently the advertising aspect of Facebook has been spinning out of control. This is bad for the site and the companies that want to advertise. This can lower a company’s or product’s rep and it can lower the sales.         

The main use of the social media site, Facebook, is social interaction. Facebook allows you to look at friends’ pictures and status updates to see what they have been doing recently. The interactions include chats, which are in real time and are a quick way of interacting. However, there are many negatives in Facebook that have to do with the fine print that the users agree to when signing up for a profile. The privacy of a user is not protected very well. The companies can sell the users information to other companies without the consent of the user. This can lead to unwanted phone calls, viruses, and even identity theft. Users assume that they can only be viewed by their friends, but this isn’t true. Many profiles can be accessed by most of the world if they want to and if the users puts personal information on their profile, such as their address and telephone, it can be taken. Users have to be more careful when putting information on the social media sites like Facebook because they never know who is going to read it.      

Like many of the business on Facebook, entrainment can use the site for the same purpose. A movie, show, or an individual in the music industry can promote themselves by creating ads and pages on Facebook. It can tell fans when dates of events are and special things like coupons and previews can be viewed by “liking” it on twitter. The negative part of Facebook for the entertainment industry is that not everyone is going to look at the page, so the whole advertising can be a complete bust.

News on Facebook spreads like wildfire if the event is of a large enough magnitude. This is the best part of having the news on the site besides the fact that users can give their opinions on the topics and talk to others. They can also start fundraisers and pages to create awareness for certain situations and events. There aren’t any negative aspects of Facebook that affect the news.

As far as recreational is concerned the biggest part is the games on Facebook. The free games are a way for the site to make money for the companies to pay to have their games on the site. Also those companies are able to expand their horizons and make new fans because Facebook has so many users that can play the games. The bad part of having all the games is that they can get access to your information and they are also very annoying when they pop up on your wall without you letting them to do so. Also it is a very easy way to get viruses or to get hacked.
